or over 40 years, FFI has worked to bridge the gap between scholarly and applied research in the field of family enterprise. A major milestone in this effort came in 1988 with the launch of our flagship journal, Family Business Review (FBR), one of the first scholarly publications dedicated to the field.

In the early 2000s, FFI expanded its offerings with the introduction of FFI Practitioner, which later evolved into a weekly digital journal. As a companion to FBR, this platform broadened our scope, creating new avenues for applied research and deeper engagement with our members.

Further advancing this mission, the 2086 Society was established in 2018. Focused on fostering innovation in both scholarly and applied research, the Society has supported several scholars-in-residence and funded two influential reports: Professionalizing the Business Family and The Governance Marathon.

The latest development in our applied research initiatives is a three-year collaboration with the Wealth Management Institute (WMI) in Singapore. The first year of this partnership has culminated in the release of a new report: Asia’s Succession Moment: Closing the Planning Gap to Safeguard Legacy.

As FFI continues to evolve, these initiatives reflect our ongoing commitment to integrating practical insights with academic rigor for the benefit of the global family enterprise community.

This report was released by WMI in Singapore in September. Today, October 31, it will be released at the Research & Education Breakfast at the FFI conference in Boston—as well as to FFI members through this issue of FFI on Friday.
