ubmissions for 2021 Family Firm Institute Academic Awards are now open.

You are cordially invited to submit recent dissertations or unpublished research papers in the coming weeks. We also encourage you to pass on the details of these opportunities to colleagues in the field. You do not have to be an FFI member to participate – academics from around the world are invited and encouraged to submit.

The Best Doctoral Dissertation and Best Unpublished Research Paper awards have been given annually by the Family Firm Institute (FFI) since 1989. They recognize the research accomplishments of academics around the world and ensure that emerging knowledge continues to be key to the growth and education of FFI members and the family enterprise field.
The awards are briefly summarized below.
The Best Doctoral Dissertation Award

The Best Doctoral Dissertation Award is given to encourage and recognize outstanding academic achievement in the field of family business study. The Best Dissertation is awarded annually after a blind peer review of all submissions. Dissertations may be on any topic of relevance to the understanding and appreciation of family firms and/or family firm advisors. Dissertations must have been written as part of a graduate course of study at an accredited academic institution and defended in the last calendar year.

Dear FFI colleagues,
As we close one of most unique years in our thirty-plus-year history, I have been reflecting on how grateful I am for the collegiality, source of energy and learning, opportunity for deepening connection, and impact in the field that FFI has consistently provided. While just about everything has been different than expected in 2020––from more consecutive non-travel days in a decade to kicking off the first conference in my Chair role from my home office––FFI’s commitment to advancing its vision to Educate, Connect, and Inspire has remained steadfast.

For several years prior to COVID-19, the FFI leadership has been working on strategic plans and initiatives to enhance our contributions and impact the field of family enterprise consulting, research, and education. The pandemic has accelerated our strategic planning and fueled several important steps, putting us in a position to succeed in 2021 and well beyond.

Here is what we’re planning at the board level to advance our strategic initiatives.
