e invite you to submit recent dissertations or unpublished research papers for consideration for the FFI Academic Awards before April 1, 2023. We also encourage you to pass on the details of these opportunities to colleagues in the field! You do not have to be an FFI member to submit—academics from around the world are invited and encouraged to submit their work.

The Best Doctoral Dissertation and Best Unpublished Research Paper awards have been given annually by the Family Firm Institute (FFI) since 1989. They recognize the research accomplishments of academics and ensure that emerging knowledge continues to be key to the growth and education of FFI members and the family enterprise field.
The Awards are briefly summarized below.

The Best Doctoral Dissertation Award

The Best Doctoral Dissertation Award is given to encourage and recognize outstanding academic achievement in the field of family business study. The Best Dissertation is awarded annually after a blind peer review of all submissions. Dissertations may be on any topic of relevance to the understanding and appreciation of family firms and/or family firm advisors. Dissertations must have been written in English as part of a doctoral course of study at an accredited academic institution and defended in the last 18 months.

The 2023 Best Doctoral Dissertation Award is generously sponsored by the Grossman School of Business at the University of Vermont.

Award: Cash prize of $2,500, one-year membership in FFI, and complimentary registration for the 2023 Annual Global Conference in October

Deadline: April 1, 2023

The Best Unpublished Research Paper Award

The Best Unpublished Research Paper Award is awarded annually after a blind peer review of all submissions. Papers may be on any topic of relevance to the understanding and appreciation of family firms and/or family firm advisors. The manuscript should not have been submitted to a journal at the time it is submitted for the award. Researchers are not allowed to submit more than one paper (per year). The winners are encouraged to submit the award-winning paper to Family Business Review (or equal journal) for publication consideration.

The 2023 Best Unpublished Research Paper Award is generously sponsored by Relative Solutions.

Award: Cash prize of $2,500, one-year membership in FFI, and complimentary registration for the 2023 Annual Global Conference in October
