ominations are now being accepted for the 2024 Achievement Awards.

For more than thirty years, these four awards have widened in scope to honor the accomplishments of leaders in the field and to increase public awareness of the variety of skills and perspectives needed to work successfully with multi-generational families in business.

Two of these awards are named for founders of FFI. The Richard Beckhard Practice Award recognizes outstanding contributions to the field of multi-generational family enterprise practice. The Barbara Hollander Award honors people who have dedicated themselves to lifelong learning. The Interdisciplinary and International Awards reflect two of FFI’s core commitments—to contribute to the development of the field from cross-disciplinary and global perspectives.

Please reflect on these awards and send nominations for one or more of them. Applications with supporting materials should be submitted no later than May 1. The award winners will be featured in FFI on Friday and as part of the 2024 FFI Global Conference.

The awards are briefly summarized below.

FFI Achievement Awards

The Richard Beckhard Practice Award was established in 1992 to honor an FFI founding member and distinguished practitioner in the family enterprise field. It recognizes outstanding contributions to the field of multi-generational family enterprise practice. Dick Beckhard himself was the first recipient; the 2023 recipient was Neus Feliu.
The Barbara Hollander Award was established in 1995 to honor the late founder and first president of FFI to perpetuate her profound interest in family business, her love for education and learning, and her strong societal commitment.

Award recipients exemplify Barbara Hollander’s love of education and learning, commitment to social causes, dedication to civic responsibility, and belief in the human capacity to change for the better. Kathy Wiseman was the inaugural winner; the 2023 recipient was Alfredo De Massis.

The Interdisciplinary Award recognizes individuals or organizations for outstanding achievement in the advancement of interdisciplinary services to multi-generational family-owned enterprises. Established in 1999, it was first given to the University of St. Thomas Center for Family Enterprise. The 2023 Interdisciplinary Award recipient was Doug Baumoel.
The International Award recognizes individuals or organizations for outstanding achievement in furthering the understanding of international issues and global networks in multi-generational, family-owned enterprise. Past recipients include individuals, universities, and associations from Cyprus, Dubai, Finland, France, Hong Kong, Italy, Lebanon, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and the United States. The award’s first recipient was Barbara Murray. The 2023 recipient was the Schlesinger Global Family Enterprise Case Competition (SG-FECC) at Grossman School of Business, University of Vermont.
