Congratulations to the Recipients of the 2018 Global Education Network (GEN) Scholarships

We are pleased to announce the 2018 winners of the FFI GEN scholarships and to thank the generous sponsors of these five awards for leading the way in ensuring that professionals in the field receive the outstanding interdisciplinary education that FFI has become known for globally.

Carmen Bianchi Family Business Associates Scholarship

The scholarship was established in 2015 to further the professional development and education of advisers, consultants, educators, and academics who have already completed one of the GEN programs and want to participate in the advanced certificate program.

2018 Recipient

Pilar Tolentino, CFBA, is an academic and a family business consultant from Manila, Philippines. She is the assistant director of the Ateneo Family Business Development Center of the Ateneo de Manila University and a faculty member of GEN 102. Pilar received the 2015 de Visscher & Co. scholarship.

Carmen Bianchi Family Business Associates was formed in 1995 to help family businesses with a wide variety of challenges.

Crystal & Company Scholarship

The scholarship is for next-gen family business members who would like to formalize their learning on the family enterprise.

2018 Recipient

Camille Crofton Cherry is a third-generation family member of a 68-year-old family company where she is currently the marketing director.

Crystal & Company was founded in 1933 by Frank Crystal. Now in its third generation of family ownership, it is one of the world’s leading strategic risk and insurance advisers.

de Visscher & Co. Scholarship

In 2010, to celebrate its 20th year as a company devoted to advising family enterprises, de Visscher & Co. established a GEN scholarship for next generation consultants and advisers in the field.

2018 Recipient

Navneet Bhatnagar is an analyst with the Thomas Schmidheiny Centre for Family Enterprise at the Indian School of Business (ISB), India. He specializes in management science research, specifically in family business research and is pursuing doctoral study with the Department of Management Studies, Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM), Chennai, India. Navneet is the author of several précis of Family Business Review articles for FFI Practitioner. Go here for the latest one.

de Visscher & Co. assists its clients in developing and analyzing financial solutions for the liquidity needs of the shareholders, the capital needs of the business, or both, while designing highly effective family and corporate governance structures to assure the long-term sustainability of the family wealth across generations.

Fitzpatrick & Francis Family Business Continuity Foundation Scholarship

The scholarship was established in 2014 to ensure that family businesses receive the best possible advice as they plan to successfully transfer ownership and leadership of their enterprise from one generation to the next. Recipients must have already completed a GEN certificate.

2018 Recipient

Javier Macias, CFBA, is an associate professor at EAE Business School in Barcelona, Spain and the co-chair of FFI’s Iberoamerica Virtual Study Group. He is currently developing a model to analyze family business relations based on sociograms to help identify leadership styles in family enterprises.

Fitzpatrick & Francis Family Business Continuity Foundation is dedicated to providing financial support for the training and education of family business advisers either through grants directly to individuals or to institutions that provide education and training to individuals.

Waesche Family Scholarship

This scholarship is for those in need of financial support to take the next step in their professional development within the field of family enterprise. Preference is given to applicants who research and aid in the understanding of the inescapable influence of money on the family enterprise.

2018 Recipient

Mohar Yusof is a certified financial planner and an active member of the Financial Planning Association of Malaysia. He has written extensively on the topic of wealth management and family offices with a focus on the Asia Pacific region. He has been a scholar in the Successful Transgenerational Entrepreneurship Practices (STEP) project since 2009. Mohar is second generation member of a family company.

D. Randolph Waesche, FFI Fellow, is president and CEO of Resource Management, LLC, a Louisiana Registered Investment Advisory firm. Randy and his firm are long-time sponsors of the Family Business Review and the FBR Best Reviewer Award in addition to his family’s generous support of this scholarship.
