e are pleased to announce the 2022 recipients of the FFI GEN scholarships for core programs! We thank the generous sponsors of these awards for ensuring that professionals in the field receive the outstanding interdisciplinary education for which FFI has become known globally.

The recipients of the 2022 Altouq Group Scholarship, the Fitzpatrick & Francis Family Business Continuity Foundation Scholarship, and the board-sponsored partial scholarships will be announced next week.

De Visscher Advisors Scholarship

In 2010, to celebrate its twentieth year as a company devoted to advising family enterprises, de Visscher Advisors established a GEN scholarship for next generation consultants and advisors in the field.

Anneleen Michiels, PhD, is associate professor of finance and family business at the Research Center for Entrepreneurship and Family firms at Hasselt University, Belgium. She is a former chair of the Strategic Interest Group on Family Business Research at the European Academy of Management and a past FOBI scholar. Her research focuses on the influence of money on the family business and the business family and is published in academic as well as practitioner-oriented journals.
de Visscher Advisors is an independent financial advisor to business owning families and closely held businesses worldwide.

Esanju Bonga is a registered psychotherapist who has worked with individuals and families facing a variety of challenges in various contexts for over 20 years. In financial therapy, she works with members of family businesses, those who have acquired sudden wealth, and those who come from generations of affluence. Her primary goal is to teach people to thrive in healthy ways independently. Esanju also helps people improve healthier communication within their family systems.

Ria N. Mankee-Sookram is an attorney, family business advisor, and mediator. Her work with family enterprises includes developing succession plans and governance practices that enhance communication and facilitate next-generation capacity, guiding families to overcome challenges to create a successful and fulfilling generational transfer of wealth, values, and legacies. She also acts as a collaborator with other family enterprise advisors and practitioners to bring clarity to community planning that inspires family engagement and communication.

Wanja Michuki is managing director of Be Bold Consulting & Advisory Ltd., which provides family enterprises with consulting and advisory services in the areas of governance, management, and ownership in preparation for succession events. Wanja is a chartered financial analyst and a graduate of Columbia Business School and Bryn Mawr College. She is also a Salzburg Global Fellow and was recently appointed to the Advisory Board of Columbia Global Centers | Nairobi.
Latin American – Caribbean Scholarship
This GEN scholarship is available to candidates from Latin America and the Caribbean. Candidates will also be professionals or academics in the fields of law, finance, behavioral science, or management science who are working with or conducting research on Latin American – Caribbean multi-generational companies.

Luis Carlos Garrido-Lecca
Luis Carlos Garrido-Lecca, MBA, is senior consultant at Garrido-Lecca Ganoza & Asociados, a consulting firm that he founded with his father and brothers. After an initial career as an industrial engineer, Luis pivoted to consulting and earned his MBA, with an emphasis on operations management, at INCAE Business School in Costa Rica. He is also commercial director and a professor of management operations at UNIS Business School in Guatemala City and a visiting professor for the PAD Escuela de Dirección in Peru.
Waesche Family Scholarship
This scholarship is intended for those in need of financial support to take the next step in their professional development within the field of family enterprise. Preference will be given to applicants who research and aid in the understanding of the inescapable influence of money on the family enterprise.

Vinod Thakur
Vinod Thakur
Vinod Thakur, PhD, is an assistant professor in strategy at FORE School of Management, New Delhi, India. He has worked with consulting firms throughout India, the Middle East, and Africa. He received his PhD from the Indian Institute of Management Lucknow, with his dissertation focusing on the family constitution as a family governance tool for business families.
D. Randolph Waesche, FFI Fellow, is a long-time sponsor of the Family Business Review and the FBR Best Reviewer Award, in addition to his family’s generous support of this scholarship.
