FFI Collaborations Promote Education and Research in the Field

FI is committed to the education and advancement of future generations of family enterprise academics and advisors. This commitment is highly visible with three collaborations in 2020.

FECC at UVM

The first of these collaborations took place in mid-January in Burlington, VT, with the University of Vermont Grossman School of Business’ Family Enterprise Case Competition (FECC). Organized by FFI Fellow Pramodita Sharma and her colleagues, this year’s competition included 18 teams from 11 countries. Here are some of the results:

First place winner in the graduate division was the Universidad Francisco Marroquin, Panama.

FFI members competing in the Graduate League were ESADE, FFI Fellow Maria Jose Parada, coach; Indian School of Business, Nupur Pavan Bang, coach, whose colleague Navneet Bhatnagar writes précis for the FFI Practitioner; and University of Adelaide, Australia, Frank Barbera, coach and also a GEN faculty member. Columbia University, Camille Korschun, coach and GEN graduate, competed in the Undergraduate League Division.

The Cases
The Case selection committee included FFI Fellow Elle Hansen, STEP member Albert James, independent case expert, scholar, and FFI member Ken Moores, and was chaired by Mira Blomen-Bekx of the Netherlands. Recipients were the following:

  • De Agostini, Repurposing the Business and the Family by Marta Widz and Benoit Leleux, IMD, Switzerland, and Guido Corbetta, Bocconi University, Italy
  • Red Collar Group by Jean Lee and Liman Zhao, CEIBS, China
  • Baucentrum: Compensation and Governance in the Family Firm by Stephen Sapp, Ivey School of Business, Canada
