Prepared Exclusively for FFI Members

From the Chair

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to report to you that the FFI board of directors and the 2018 Global Conference program committee had a series of meetings last month to further the strategic goals of the organization and to put in place the final plans for the October 24-26 conference in London.

Here are some highlights based on the strategic goals adopted by the board last year.

Education

Education

GEN:

We heard a report on our Global Education Network (GEN) program now that it has been in place for five years! Congratulations to all the students and faculty that have worked to make this program a success since it began. Looking to the future, the board and several London-based members gave a thoughtful consideration to the Advanced Certificate program. You can expect some changes in the coming year, building on the success of the core courses on governance (GEN 502), tools and assessment (GEN 503), and philanthropy (GEN 504). A curriculum committee will be put in place to review and enhance the advanced certificates.

Thanks to Carlo Salvato, GEN faculty chair, for leading these conversations.

2018 Conference:

Thanks to the conference committee which reviewed many excellent proposals and has developed a fantastic program for you. Stand by for the complete results – all of which are based on the theme of “festivals.” Look forward to a main stage with highly entertaining presentations on some of the classic topics, a variety of interactive sessions (think improv, masks, and music) and a closing fair featuring UK family business. If you haven’t already registered, please do so below before the Winter Special expires.

Public Awareness

The good work of the FFI Practitioner editorial committee was applauded, and we hope you are all enjoying the newly-designed weekly editions as well as using www.ffipractitioner.org and its many resources – more than 400 FFI Practitioner articles in a taxonomy for ease of use. Authors are welcome.

We have all downloaded the new app Social Link and encourage you to do the same. It allows you to access the information on ffi.org more quickly, as well as provides an opportunity to build your own internal FFI network. Speaking of www.ffi.org, the board authorized a redesign of this site to make it more user-friendly with more features that relate to search engine optimization (SEO). This work will take place over the coming months.

Of course, we also received other reports, reviewed financials, and engaged in creative dialogue on a variety of topics. A highlight of the retreat was a regional reception at the Park Plaza Riverbank where more than 60 members and friends met for conversation and networking.

The board will meet between now and October via Zoom and in person again in London in the fall – where we hope to see many of you at the conference.

It’s a pleasure to serve as chair of the board, and I thank the outstanding board members who join me in looking after this vibrant organization.

Sincerely,
