Meet the GEN Q4 Faculty Members

Enrollment for the fourth quarter of the Global Education Network (GEN) certificate program opens on October 1.

If you have not participated in this program, we hope this is the quarter for you to begin! If you have, we hope you will recommend the program to colleagues and friends.
The GEN program has a distinguished faculty, and you can see them all on ffigen.org. For now, however, we’re pleased to introduce you to those people teaching in Q4.

Online GEN Courses

FFI GEN’s revolutionary online learning environment is different from the traditional “talking-heads” model of online courses. Course webinars feature live classroom discussions allowing you to see, interact with and learn from both the instructor and peers from across the globe. Faculty leading these courses this quarter are:

Carmen Bianchi, FFI Fellow, is a former FFI president and board member. She is the sponsor of the Carmen Bianchi Family Business Associates Scholarship. She received the 2012 FFI Barbara Hollander Award. She will be teaching one of the segments of GEN 201: Family Enterprise Advising and Consulting: The action research model as applied to family enterprise.

Richard Boyce, CFBA, CFWA, is the executive director of BOYCE Family Office in Australia. He has more than 24 years’ experience advising high-net-worth individuals and families including establishing and running family offices. Richard is a fifth-generation member of his family business, an organization with 100-year old roots in newspaper publishing. He will be teaching GEN 202: Families of Wealth: A multidisciplinary approach.

Anthony Devine, CFBA, CFWA, PhD, is at the University of Northumbria, Newcastle, England. He teaches at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels with a focus on financial and management accounting, corporate governance, ethics and family business. He will be teaching one of the segments of GEN 501: Myths, Realities, and Trends in the Field of Family Enterprise.

Jennifer East, FFI Fellow, is the founder of ONIDA Family Advisors, Inc., an international coaching and consulting firm headquartered in Toronto, Canada. She specializes in working with family businesses and financial families. She will be teaching GEN 502: Family Governance in the Family Enterprise: A key structural element in family enterprise governance.

Ian Macnaughton, FFI Fellow, is the founder of Transition Point Coaching in Vancouver, Canada. He has more than 35 years’ experience in the field and is an FIA-certified expert in family relationships, family enterprise, and has experience in his own family business. He will be teaching one of the segments of GEN 102: Self in Systems: Systemic thinking, genograms & the role of the family enterprise advisor.

Daphne McGuffin, FFI Fellow, is the program director for The BDO SuccessCare Program in Canada. She focuses on helping family enterprises enhance communication and structure, while ensuring alignment around core ideology, strategy and transition. She will be teaching GEN 201: Family Enterprise Advising and Consulting: The action research model as applied to family enterprise.

Natalie McVeigh, CFWA, ACFBA, is vice president, family dynamics consultant with Wells Fargo Private Bank. In addition to her work with clients and teaching, she is the chair of FFI’s Next Gen Practitioners Virtual Study Group. She is on the panel for “Celebrating the Practitioner’s Spectrum” at the FFI Global Conference in London. Natalie will be teaching one of the segments of GEN 501: Myths, Realities, and Trends in the Field of Family Enterprise.

Helena von der Esch, CFBA, is director Business Advisory with Grant Thornton Sweden. She is a former director of members and development with FBN Sweden. Helena has been in management positions for more than 15 years and has worked in management teams in family-owned companies. She will be teaching one of the segments of GEN 102: Self in Systems: Systemic thinking, genograms & the role of the family enterprise advisor.

In-Person GEN Courses

If you’re interested in the fourth quarter in-person GEN courses for advanced certificates, they will be offered in London on October 24. Faculty leading these courses are:

James Coutre is vice president of Insights and Connections at Fidelity Family Office Services in Boston. Prior to joining Fidelity, he was a partner at The Philanthropic Initiative (TPI). He is moderating “Aligning Long-Term Incentive Compensation,” at the FFI Global Conference in London and will be co-teaching GEN 504: Meaning and Purpose: Philanthropy and the Family Enterprise.

Andrew Hier, FFI Fellow, is a senior partner with Cambridge Advisors to Family Enterprise where he assists clients with ownership, business and family issues, including development of the next generation and conflict management. He will be co-teaching GEN 503: Tools for Positive Change in Family Business Systems: Analysis and application at the FFI Global Conference in London.

Maya Prabhu, CFBA, CFWA, is an executive director of the Coutts Institute, Coutts & Co in London. Maya leads the Coutts Forums for Philanthropy and was involved in developing the Coutts Handbook for Philanthropy and Inspiring Local Philanthropy. She will be co-teaching GEN 504: Meaning and Purpose: Philanthropy and the Family Enterprise at the FFI Global Conference in London.

Carlo Salvato, FFI Fellow, serves as the GEN Faculty chair and vice-chair of the FFI board of directors. He is professor of business strategy at Bocconi University in Milan, Italy, has served as an associate editor of the Family Business Review (FBR), and has published widely in the field. He will be co-teaching GEN 503: Tools for Positive Change in Family Business Systems: Analysis and Application at the FFI Global Conference in London.
