University of Witten
University of Witten logo
The Witten Institute for Family Business (WIFU) is a center for experienced and young researchers, and whose mission is to research the specific challenges that family businesses face, to gain a deeper understanding of them, and to feed this understanding back into practice. They regularly organize intensive discussion sessions that cover themes such as leadership roles, succession, conflicts, crisis management, shareholder identity, sustainability, and mechanisms of family management. The WIFU research approach combines quantitative and qualitative research with a clear link to practice. The work of the WIFU is supported by the WIFU Foundation, a group of 75 family businesses from the German-speaking world (Germany, Switzerland and Austria). FFI members include Marcel Hülsbeck, Ruth Orenstrat, Tom Rüsen, and Ole Schachtsiek.

One of the hallmarks of FFI is its ongoing commitment to advance the field through publishing, practice, and research. In June, we were pleased to announce the 2021 Achievement Award Recipients and the 2021 Academic Award Recipients. Today, we celebrate more outstanding contributions to the field by announcing the 2021 Family Business Review Award recipients. These awards will be presented at the FFI Conference in October, either virtually or in London.
