Founded in 1988, IMD Global Family Business Center is a center of excellence in education, research, and outreach. IMD is dedicated to the issues facing family businesses, family offices, and family foundations, and help ensure the sustainable success of business and family, whether large or small. Today, IMD Global Family Business Center operates from campuses in Lausanne and Singapore and delivers off-site programs worldwide.

FFI members are Virginie Boillat-Carrard, Matthew Crudgington (CFBA), Alfredo De Massis, Anouk Lavoie, Nathalie Martin, Ivan Miroshnychenko, Malgorzata Smulowitz, and Peter Vogel. IMD is the Academic Host of the 2023 FFI Global Conference in New York and was the recipient of the 2021 FFI International Award.

In response to the growing needs for Asian-centric family business research and education, the Singapore Management University (SMU) established the Business Families Institute (BFI) in August 2012 to help business families build sustainable, impactful enterprises across generations. Through SMU’s core competence as a thought leader, BFI aims to strengthen the ecosystem of entrepreneurial business families and stakeholders in their creation of sustainable impact by addressing business family-specific issues such as succession, family governance, entrepreneurship and wealth management. The Institute also encourages business families to Think Generations, Think Growth, Think Giving and Think Global.

Singapore Management University’s FFI members are Kenneth Goh, Annie Koh, Esther Kong, Hwee Hoon Tan, and Mandy Tham.

STEP is a professional, international, and outward-facing organization whose primary purposes are to improve public understanding of the issues that families face in relation to inheritance and succession planning, and to promote education and high professional standards among its members. STEP’s Business Families Special Interest Group focuses on what makes business families distinct, their particular challenges, and how to best address them.

STEP and the STEP Business Families Special Interest Group received the 2019 FFI International Award.

More than 30 STEP members are part of the FFI membership, and they hail from countries around the globe, including Europe, the Americas, and the Caribbean.
