In March 2026, he added another distinguished honor to his long list of achievements when he received the 2026 George A. Miller Prize in Cognitive Neuroscience from the Cognitive Neuroscience Society.
LeDoux’s music has become deeply intertwined with his scientific work. His songs inspired the musical Map of Your Mind and were featured in Werner Herzog’s 2024 documentary Theatre of Thought. His life, work, and music are also the subject of the Amazon documentary Neuroscience and Emotions.
Joseph LeDoux’s upcoming book, (Just Like) Starting Over, is a memoir. With the title alluding to a John Lennon song, the book is about all of the ways that LeDoux has “started over” in his life–personally, academically, and professionally.

Patrick earned his undergraduate degree from Columbia University in New York City. He later received master’s degrees from Cambridge University and the London School of Economics, as well as a law degree from Yale University.
In 2014, he received the National Magazine Award for Feature Writing. His acclaimed book Say Nothing won the National Book Critics Circle Award for Nonfiction and the Orwell Prize for Political Writing, and was selected by The New York Times as one of the “20 Best Books of the 21st Century.”
His bestselling book Empire of Pain received the Baillie Gifford Prize for Nonfiction and was a finalist for the Financial Times Business Book of the Year Award.
London Falling, Patrick Radden Keefe’s new book, recounts the double life of Zac Brettler, a young man who posed as the scion of a wealthy Russian oligarch in London before jumping to his death in the river Thames at age 19.
In television, he served as executive producer of the BAFTA- and Emmy-nominated FX dramatic series Say Nothing, which received a Peabody Award.
